When Hollywood Worked For America
When Hollywood Worked For America
There has been a fundamental paradigm shift in Hollywood over the past 30+ years. Hollywood use to be of assistance to overseas operations bringing education, social enlightenment and international awareness.
In the last 15 years Hollywood has been a war mongering crowd who hates war but sells it habitually. It as if Hollywood believes Americans have somehow been brain washed into believing what they place on the screen. Perhaps that is why Hollywood is paid such outrageous salaries? Has Hollywood taken the place of military and intelligence recruiters? I don’t think so.
Arguably, no one in intelligence watches movies or television. Amusement is a sick vice of weaker minds. But it would seem Hollywood is less interested in recruiting fit soldiers and more interested in recruiting Americans to die in senseless power conflicts. Hollywood has become so unpatriotic it is embarrassing. And while perhaps the movie industry is available to dull down the minds of individuals in other countries, people in the USA are no longer interested. Personally, I don’t watch the television or read the local news. But there was a time when Hollywood got it right.
I will provide you with two examples of movies which are completely separate but served very good purposes for USA diplomacy.
The Killing Fields
First was the movie The Killing Fields. I saw this movie in High School and was so profoundly touched by the Cambodian peoples’ plight. I was especially touched by the story of Dith Pran the Cambodian camera man who was left in Cambodia. This film was great for many reasons. The first was that it highlighted why Vietnam was such a bad idea and the consequences of that struggle for the Cambodian people. It also covered some of the fundamental tenants of Maoism but managed to show that not there are no absolutes in any society.
To this day I have had friends that have lived in Thailand and they have not been able to visit Cambodia. And finally the film brought into light the land mines which riddle that country. This was a classic film which for all intents and purposes acknowledged the fall out of the Vietnam war.
I must say when I first saw The Killing Fields I remembered the scene where Dith Pran almost had his head chopped off and I gasped. Now in the year 2012, I have seen people have their heads chopped off on the internet. It would seem The Killing Fields left Cambodia a long time ago and are now everywhere. I also remember the song by John Lennon at the end which was “Imagine”.
Great film against communism and for world wide unity. I recommend you see it if you have not. I loved Hollywood for making this film.

Romancing the Stone
The second film was Romancing the Stone. If you haven’t seen this film I also highly recommend it as well. It is a comedy and completely different from The Killing Fields but it served its purpose.
First the film improved South American and North American relations which is always good stewardship. I was traveling over seas a few months after this film was released world wide and it was quiet easy to slip into the character of being the stupid American. Now more sophisticated Europeans knew the difference but the simpletons in Europe readily believed American women were dumb pot smokers who were looking for a sexual encounter.
Now that was good American propaganda. And I was able to wiggle in and out of tight social situations playing dumb.

In Conclusion
In the 1980(s) Hollywood worked for America and now in 2012 Hollywood only wants to recruit Americans to death. You have to wonder who Hollywood is working for now?
I can’t imagine the pull out from Iraq having any different result then that of pulling out of Vietnam on the Cambodian people. And I can only hope that Hollywood has put together that apology movie for what has been done to Iraq by Hollywood. But again Hollywood doesn’t work for the USA any longer and only wish to recruit Americans to death. Until that ends, I don’t think Hollywood will be able to sell another movie ticket, video game or anyone into bondage but themselves. I would love to see SAG go to war in Iraq and Afghanistan. It might hurt the opium trade out of Afghanistan but I think SAG needs to arm up and do the heavy lifting before they send anyone else to their grave.
Hollywoodat best could only give an American overseas a tactical advantage for a few brief seconds. Right now the message out of Hollywood is against that tactical advantage. No American that watches the signal intelligence out of Hollywood would fight when Hollywood is sending out anti-American messaging. Until that paradigm sifts, I don’t believe recruiters stand a chance to recruit anyone except maybe unemployed actors who haven’t paid the IRS which I understand there are quite a few.
Hollywood's social consciousness has been replaced by power hungry people whose greed is destroying their industry. Sad that I, a simple hubber has to write it instead of Hollywood being able to self govern and realize this on their own. Money means more to them then what is left of their art.
