The Anonymous Commenter
Since I have started on Hubpages I have had the anonymous commenter habitually leaving negative remarks on my hubs. This is a person who has absolutely no hubs and has been on HP for less than a few weeks (Sometimes in fact it is 18 minutes) who like to leave very inappropriate comments to cram their agenda down my readers throats.
In the beginning I allowed these comments as I was very pro freedom of press and freedom of speech. But I have had to endure a lot of hatred and cruel jabs. This seems unfair because theoretically we could all have second and third identities and drag each others hubs down and not pay the metaphysical toll because we were doing it anonymously. Yet, I have not done this. I have tried to play very fairly in this community when others have sunk to low levels to discredit certain writers. I no longer take any comments from writers who are not established hub writers who are willing to come from out the shadows and make honest constructive criticisms. I highly recommend all of you do this as it is hard enough to come up with fresh new material that is relevant and answer sincere comments without having to deal with these pests.
There are legitimate reasons to have more then one account name. For instance I have 533 hubs right now in a year. It has occurred to me to create a new name and start over for simplistic reasons. When I am citing my own hubs it becomes increasing difficult when I have to review 533 hubs each time I want to add a link. I also would prefer to have a name for each genre I write in. For instance I would like to have a strictly poetry hub and then perhaps a strictly political hub or a strictly autism hub. But because the practice of using names to undermine other writers hubs in what can only be ascribed to as subterfuge is so prevalent I will not. I still reserve the right to use other names in the future but if I do I can promise you two things. One, I will be focused on producing quality work for the hub community and not sabotaging other writers. And two, when I am not writing I will be reading or answering questions or asking them. But I will not harm another writer just to cram my beliefs down another writer’s readers’ throats. Personally, I think we should respect each others’ work and encourage each other. But again I am not shoving my values onto you. I am just simply stating that I don’t believe anyone should have the right to tear another’s work down. I also don’t believe that a commenter without at least 10 hubs should be able to make comments. I believe that those who have written five (5) articles on the proper use of grammar are informative but not experienced enough to actually provide criticism and that all criticism needs to be constructive.
While I realize this maybe an unpopular opinion for those who still engage in the practice of subterfuge on hubpages, I think it is desperately needed to maintain the integrity of the community. And I moderate now and will forever.
