Religion; A Failed Social Experiment

Updated on February 7, 2012

They Will Know We Are Christians By Our Love

Christianity a Failed Social Experiment in America

I was having one of my typical dinner parties with the Ivy League. Perhaps this dinner party was not so typical as it is my friend who lived in France for 15 years and we don't really even debate but discuss things that interest us.

Last night we both concluded that only the blackest sheep's veil themselves in Christianity as a morally superior point. Most people can find good to do in their communities through volunteer work without having to serve in church leadership and obtain acknowledgement for their absolute good.

We also concluded that George Bush may very well have turned all of America off to Christianity and in particular the evangelical moment by his inability to turnt he other cheek after 9/11. It was a moment that was a litmus test for the Bush administration. Were they truly conservative Christians or were they after a vendetta? The Bush administration failed to show they were true Christians but more of an administration that cloaked itself in the claim of faith without actually being the faithful.

Sadly, this will hurt Mitt Romney and leave a permanent stain on the Republican Party as the Republican Party will cease to exist if they do not step away from the evangelical base as quickly as possible. And it also means the death of any hopeful run for JEB. I think the Bush era has finally ended in this country permanently. There is no more place for organized religion in politics. George Bush ended that as well.

We Will Walk With Our Brothers We Will Walk Hand in Hand

I remembered this song clearly from my childhood and yet the lines are different on youtube. One of the lines was "We Will Walk With Our Brothers We Will Walk Hand in Hand". How America has failed to do this. If anything after 9/11 we should have embraced the Muslim countries that were our allies and asked for their assistance with going after the terrorists. But instead paranoia (clinical) took over the executive branch and they alienated every single Muslin in America. And it is still going on today.

Barack Obama is not a Muslim. His name is Swahalia. He didn't choose it. I believe he has Americanized it to be more adaptable. But if he were a Muslim I would feel the same way about him. He is my brother. I am not to tear him down because he has an African name but build him up as he is my brother. I think it has been absolutely awful the way this man has been attacked on his faith which we should all respect and his birthplace. I have more sympathy for Barack Obama then I have had for any Democrat in years because of these very personal attacks on him. Substantively do I agree with everything he has done? Absolutely not!

But I am a Christian by deed and in order for me to maintain my values and faith I have to be Christian to Barack Obama and accept he is my brother in faith if nothing else.

It gravelly concerns me that this country has become so polarized by Christianity but fails to show Christian values. Attending church or being in a leadership in Church doesn't make you a Christian. It can only be measured by your treatment of others especially those outside of your religion.

After 9/11 I was around Muslims rather constantly and habitually but I always have been. And they felt so persecuted in this country. And I was offended for them. They are decent hardworking people just as another individual from a religious group. And quite frankly, Muslims will not let you go hungry. It is against the tenets of their faith. They are required to be brothers and sisters to all mankind as well. If only the executive branch had seen the infinite value in embracing our allies instead of declaring war when we were so painfully wounded on 9/11. And yes, I did carry on my usual life after 9/11 because I knew that both good and bad lurks in every religion, in every social economical status and we always had to be vigilant.

Has Christianity Failed In America?

That is up to you. Can you leave behind your old prejudices and what the Bush Administration has claimed about all Muslims in order to unite with our brothers and sisters? If you can't Christianity is dead. IF you can then it succeed despite George Bushes best attempts to destroy it. We need to unite with all faiths and not just Muslims. I would like to see the USA embrace Buddhism beyond that of give the Dali Lama a gift once and a while. Perhaps they could pressure China to bring back the Panche Lama who must be in his late teens if he is still even alive.

There are many paths to enlightenment and when 9/11 happened America became cut off from their roles as Christians in the world.

A Few Ideas How to Begin?

  • Accept that it is more important to act Christian then to lead Christians.
  • Embrace individuals of other faiths.
  • Serve in countries that desperately need aid relief which America is fastly falling into that category.
  • Accept that the USA must have a seperation of Church and State now more then ever and that we have lost moral authroity based on the evangelicals.
  • Try to learn about other religions and be respectful of others' religious beliefs.
  • Attend a Mosque or Temple as a means of studying and appreciating other faiths. Sadly, you will not be able to attend a Mormon Temple as non-Mormons aren't allowed.
  • Visit and elderly person and make certain they have food and clean clothes.
  • Volunteer in your community and be of service.
  • And start walking hand in hand with all your brothers and sisters again.

Our Conclusion

We truly believed last night at the conclusion of our conversation that if America did not change how it perceived the world and stopped being divided along religious and political lines that it would never regain its' strength as a nation. On 9/11 it was George Bush stopped trusting in God and believed wholeheartedly in Carpet Bombing. And while I will never argue the influence the NRA has had on politics we are a country which has "In God We Trust" on everything. When are we going to trust in God again? Or better yet when are we going to realize that all the propaganda about each other is just not true and we unite?

America's best defense is unity and for the moments after 9/11 we had the opportunity to unify with the rest of the world instead of carpet bomb it. Why didn't our government do that? Carpet bombing is the least effective and most politically disastrous thing the USA could be engages in at this or any other time. Carpet Bombing has been out dated since Vietnam but I guess all war is insanity and their is no room for insanity and Christianity in America and therefore until these wars end Christianity is a failed social experiment in America. And to exceptionally clear greed and allowing your neighbor to starve or people to go homeless is not Christian either.

Christianity is dead until people around the country decide tor resurrect it. And this article is not really about the HP community because I believe all of you are aware of this but with the exception of a few. It is more geared towards those outside of HP which I receive traffic from now.
