Making Your Own Christmas Wreaths
Making Your Own Christmas Wreaths
In an earlier hub I alluded to the fact I buy a small unhealthy tree for pennies on the dollar. I make my own Christmas wreaths. It is really a simple thing to do and it is a lot of fun. The homemade Christmas wreaths smell great and last a very long time.
I actually have a bare wreath that I use to place the branches in a clock wise position around the wreath and I just pin then in the wreath. You can do this alone or with your children but watch the pins and the glue gun. It takes about an hour at most and you will have produced customized wreaths. In years not so lean I would make them for friends and family as holiday gifts. They appreciated the sentiment and the that they are homemade.
How To Make the Wreaths
1) I clean and cut branches so they are almost even. I soak the branches in cold water and then let them dry out on a cool day.
2) I lay the branches on top of each other in a clockwise pattern.
3) When I am happy with the shape and consistency of the branches I pin them into place.
4) I arrange pine cones and candy canes on my wreath.
5) I hot glue the pine cones and candy canes in place.
6) I let glue cool and then hang the wreath on the door.
Important Note
I have lost more than one wreath by putting candy canes on them. Young children and sometimes not so young children try to take the candy canes off the wreath. Christmas brings out all of our basic brain functions. On more than on occasion I have seen an adult at my door enjoying a candy canes and they hand me my wreath and tell me it was like that when they arrived. The wreath looked like a bear had mangled it. I wouldn’t want to call anyone a liar at the holidays but let’s just say I found their story to be a bit suspicious. So if you don’t wish to have your wreaths destroyed by hungry individuals you might want to use fake cranberries.

In Conclusion
Making homemade wreaths can be a lot of fun. You can also do this activity with your children or have a wreath building party. You can personalize and customize your wreaths for your family for a very small amount of money.
