Drug Testing For Welfare Recipients: A New Republican Tax on the Poor.
74Scott Dscriminates Against Drug Addicts
Rick Scott Taxes the Poor
As if Republican Rick Scott could make one more bad decision for all of Florida he has decided to discriminate against drug addicts who by law in the state of Florida are not criminals but sick individuals by denying the their welfare checks. And he is charging them for drug tests no matter if they are clean or not which is a tax on welfare.
Scott has to pick on the poor and disenfranchised. If a welfare recipient is clean they have to pay for their own drug tests and if they aren't they lose their benefit. It is simply a welfare tax which I don't think is constitutional. I doubt it is legal to TAX WELFARE. It is a little incredulous given by definition all politicians are welfare recipients so why don’t they have to prove they are drug free as well? I am all against drugs so lets also require doctors and surgeons to provide urine samples and pay for them before they walk into a hospital or before each surgery. Let's tax the doctor in and out of the practice of medicine too.
And Congress should be drug free as well. God knows with the decisions they have all be making lately it does seem like they are on something. And they have to make really important decisions so lets test everyone in Washington DC for drugs daily before we ever go after anyone outside of the plush cushy greedy life inside the beltway. The truth is DC wouldn’t be able to pass drug tests. We have supreme court justices that can’t pass drug tests but what is good for everyone outside the beltway should be really good for everyone inside the beltway.
I think every last person in this country who holds a key position should be drug tested everyday of their lives three times a day including but not limited to everyone inside the beltway and they can all pay for it as well. That goes for everyone in the legislature in Tallahassee and in the Governor’s office. I think perhaps given Rick Scott’s career in the field of medicine and his exceptional poor life choices he has made indicate he is in dire need to be drug tested every single day of his life. After all he leads this state and if he wants anyone else to take a drug test I think he should be first in line for drug testing as well as the legislature. And they should all have to pay for their drug tests.
Because there are no bigger welfare recipients then our representatives and they are paid very well and the least they should do is be required to live under the same scrutiny they would a single Mother with 4 children should. I bet and this is only a bet that more representatives would pop positive for drugs on a percentage basis then welfare recipients. After all representatives only represent to fulfill all their vices, with prostitution, drugs and greed. Let’s get Washington DC and all politicians clean first!!!
That would be some change I could believe in!!
Then we can rip the drugs away from the entire medical profession which abuse drugs terribly and the legal profession. Let's all get sober together!! But DC first and foremost since they lead, they can lead in sobriety.
And then let the country dispel the myth that only poor people do drugs because quite frankly that is not even close to being true. Drug Addiction is a worse problem of the wealthy then that of people on welfare. People on welfare can't afford food let alone drugs.
Let's sober up all of DC. After all Congress gets a larger proportion of welfare then any other welfare recipient in the country so they should be be drug tested first and foremost. In the financial crisis of 2011 they gave themselves a 5% raise and they seem incapable of waking up to the new reality of the world they live in in which they re no longer revered but are utterly loathed and detested.
Sober all the bums up and then send them all to the unemployment line. The least we can do for them is let them experience what we have endure under their tyranny.

Oh wow, the beginning of the article got my blood boiling so bad I skipped to the comment section, sorry about that. I agree with most of your point now. Sorry for speaking before finishing the article!
Drug test welfare recipients because they are receiving funds to fund their drug addiction habit from tax payers. To try to invoke the constitution to ban such a practice is comical because the constitution does not allow in anyway the concept of taking money from some citizens to give to other "less fortunate" citizens. If you want a safety net for the poor, that's one thing and it is reasonable and debatable but to claim that citizens do not have a right to check on if their tax money is going to illegal drug use for the poor just makes socialism look even more ridiculous than history already makes it look.
I actually did get that major point of your article but neglected to comment on it. So I will now. I agree with you wholeheartedly. Any person in government or working for the government should have to pass the same drug test as those who work for private employers. (Which I think should be none BUT if we are going to test anybody we should test everybody.) :D
I think this is a good move. It seems to me that you have to have a drug test for most all employment now. So why shouldn't you have to pass one for receiving a check for doing nothing from monies that come from employed people who had to take one to make a living?
Now, I am against all drug testing. I do not think it should be required of anyone for any reason. BUT, if it is going to be required to work, it ought to be required to be paid for not working.
JT, You are most welcome, my dear. H
Everyone should know I was mistaken in my comment about JT above. H
JT, You deleted my comment, so I won't say anymore. H
JT, I wrote about this topic years ago, this was my plan:
1- Welfare is 2-3 year program, recipients receive job training or sweep streets (an example of a job)and get paid for doing any work. Taxes are paid according to their income.
2- An individual cannot receive child support for more than five children.
3- Random drug testing must be enfrced. Every time a test is positive, the recipient looses 10% of their entitlement. They can punish themselves by choice.
4- After 2-3 years, Welfare is discontinued. H
I say 'Amen' to this hub and all you write. I live in the state of Florida and I know a woman who is so pro about those who get benefits from the state to be drug tested, its pitiful. Every time I see her I want to shake her. She has a petition out for everything, wouldn't doubt if she had one for this topic. So yeah, let's test the state officials first and foremost! Maybe they would wake up and get on the move!

Hi rlframboise,
It is all good we are all human. I am just for cleaning up DC first. Drug testing welfare recipients is government shifting the blame off of their huge salaries and big spending and onto the poor disenfranchised person. Welfare isn't the problem except the welfare given to the DC crowd who spend like drunken sailors on holiday. The first place that needs to be clean is DC. And you will be amazed at how quickly the rest of the country follows suit.
The last thing I would want to do is tear into a fellow American living in these times.
All My Best,
JT
