Celebrating 50,000 Page Views
CELEBRATING 50,000 PAGE VIEWS
It is really hard to believe that I have 50,000 page views in just over a year. I imagined to get that kind of readership I would have to do something sensational like show nude photos or something but I wrote from the heart and here I am reaching my 50,000 page views. I should mention I haven’t been very active in the last 6 months on Hubpages but my friends and loyal followers have been so generous to me through this past year and I am so grateful to all of them. So in essence this is not a celebration of my achievement but of their loyalty and for that I am truly amazed. So to all my friends who have read or are reading this now thank you!

Ten Tips to Increase Your Readership
1- Write on Everything.
Well I have written in about every genre possible. I doubt I don’t think I have missed a genre. And I have written consistently and from the heart. While I have not really written my opinions but one side of arguments I have also gone back and written the other side of arguments as well. Let’s use politics for instance, I have written pro democratic and pro republican articles. I probably have written more anti-Tea Party articles then I have written anything because I don’t believe in pseudo-parties in US politics. But I have also written on Prime Minister Berlusconi and how much our political system has mirrored Italian politics in the last decade. I of course find this phenomena to be odd since the Italian Empire has been crushed and therefore mirroring a fallen empire is to only see the fall of the USA but I digress.
2- Write from the Heart.
I really mean this. Write what you know and what you love. This enthusiasm translates to your readers and makes hubbing a much more enjoyable experience. I have written hubs which require a great deal of research. I stopped when I realized that they were not being read as frequently as hubs which I had genuine enthusiasm for.
3- Write a position piece but not your position.
I only write on side of any argument as written before. For many reasons but perhaps the best reason is that is it is less offensive when people disagree with me. The Internet is a vast a complicated place which needs many opinions and there is a writer for every audience for every opinion even ones I disagree with. So try and just take a side and write and then write the other side in another article.
3- Write for Google Traffic.
I receive little traffic from hubpages any longer but from Google. So I try and write for Google and I am always mindful of my audiences. I often have traffic from Canada, England, Ireland, and Australia. And so when I write I have a great deal of humility writing as I know there is a difference between American English and British English. I am actually half English and my Father’s family migrated from England so I am very aware of the difference in our language and culture. When I write I try to keep that in mind for my British audience.
4- Sensationalism Doesn’t Sell.
When I first started on Hubpages I thought sensationalism would sell. Write the opposite of the mainstream opinion and you will get a lot of traffic. That actually never happened. I guess the Internet is filled with sensational stuff but those people burn out quickly. More important is writing quality hubs with consistency, being respectful to all of your cementers (I have failed a few times at this myself).
5- Write Attractive Hubs with Colored Pictures of Video
I remember when I was in school you were considered an adult reader when you moved away from reading books with pictures. This is contrary to Internet publications. Often pictures and video can make the hub really attractive. Content is important but to give your hubs that extra flare it is important to give them color.
6- Write in Paragraph Form.
In a way this seems odd to me since we are writing for an international audience and not every culture embraces using paragraphs. But it is important when you write your hubs to write small bits of information and break things down for your reader. While quality writing is appreciated on the Internet it is critical to break everything down for your reader.
7- Social Network.
While I am not as good at social networking as I should be I do have a Facebook account, a Google+ account and a Twitter Account. I have not learned to Pinterest yet. I may take a month off to concur that as well. Post everything on multiple social network sites as I am certain you will pick up some readership as you do. Again I have some traffic from Facebook but the majority of my traffic comes from Google +.
8- Timing.
Some of my most popular articles aren’t necessarily my best. But they happen to be timely. A rule of thumb is that if you hear it on the news it is old. But if you find the story and lead then you will have followers. Timing is everything. I understand Search Engine Optimizing is also very important but I haven’t learned that art yet.
9- Patients.
Always have patients. If your article is well written and craft with good intentions for your reader, it will translate to your reader. It may not happen immediately but over time you will gain readership for and earnings for all of your diligent efforts. In my efforts on Hubpages I earn passively now. That means I am free to follow other endeavors and still earn money from my articles. It is a great feeling when you don’t publish in one month but still manage to earn income.
10-Do Unto Others
If you wish to be read, read others work. It is a very simply philosophy. For the first year I read 5 articles a day. I didn’t just read what interested everyone’s work. At first I didn’t want to read poetry but then after reading several poems I became interested. It is the same with fiction. I was less then interested in reading fictional work but them I extended myself beyond my comfort zone and I read fiction. It was most beneficial to me as it gave me courage to write some fictional works.
