3 Years of Hubpages Work in 6 months
Three Years Hubpages Work in 6 Months
As I write this article I am 35 hubs away from completing three years worth of work on hubpages in 6 months. When I make this statement I am solely basing it on the 3 article per week which is 156 articles a year and then I times that time 3 which is 368 articles. I should also allow that I have not SEO at all or back linked once. I will have to probably have to take time off from writing for the next 6 months and figure all of that out. And I don’t recommend anyone follow my path. It is much easier to know what you are doing when you start then to have to learn on the fly.
What I Have Learned
I don’t recall exactly when it was, whether it was my first fifty hubs or my first hundred hubs but I wrote them all without adsense codes. Once I figured out adsense, I had to go back and reinsert all the codes which was a terrible pain. I probably lost a week of work just doing that.
I also have learned that what is popular today on search engines quickly fades and it is better to own your own subject matter and create a trend then to actually depend on following one.
I learned that if you write on so many different subjects you become your label and not your content. Diversity is great but it is harder to build a following until your audience gets to know you.
But the writers and readers are so generous on the Hubpages. For every person who criticizes, and they have been maybe entirely correct, there are ten other people who will encourage you. Just being involved with this community has honed my artistic abilities and has made me completely grateful.
And as much as I have learned I have much more to learn like SEO and back links.
How To Work
I believe throwing myself into Hubpages in many ways has helped me become a better writer. I didn’t do it initially for the money although it will be nice when I do get paid. And I am making money for those of you who have doubts. It is not as much as I would like but it takes time building an audience. I have about 188 followers as I write this to you and I have about 21, 000 page views which means that on average if only my followers read me they would have read about 112 articles of mine. What a wonderful bunch of people? And I know certain followers don’t read certain articles. Such as my political articles have a certain group who like to read them. While my articles on recipes followers is a very different set of folks. In essence I have become my own brand and not the material which I write. This was not my intention. It just happened. And again I don’t necessarily think anyone should follow this path. The writer who writes on one topic probably builds a following much quicker and is read more frequently. But sometimes mistakes can be providence.
What else? I write everyday and try to limit it to a maximum of seven hubs a day. And since I write seven and wish to have them read I try to read seven. I try to never write a hub under 500 words anymore. Occasionally, I will but only rarely. I get up everyday and I research, download the images I need, and then I write. And I write as long as I can and then I home school my son. Then I start making the list of tomorrow’s articles’ topics.
I took the challenges all of them. The 30 hubs in 30 day challenge was kind of silly for me to ever take but I did. Since I have been writing on hub pages I have never published less than 30 hubs in a month. The 100 hubs in 30 day challenge was very demanding but it forced me out of my comfort zone and into a very strict regime of writing. And while I didn’t publish a 100 hubs last month I definitely was well over 30. On average I am publishing about 78 hubs per month. But that also was not my intention. But the Patron of the Arts Contest was in November so for the first time I started writing poetry. Again I was writing outside of my expertise and comfort zone and yet I continued and showed all of the Hubpages community my fledgling attempts at poetry. My entries into this contest increased my publications and I got to know some great writers.
My natural pace is somewhere around 60 hubs a month. I could take the 100 hubs in 30 day challenge but why? And it is important for all writers to find their natural pace and then push themselves outside of their comfort zones. Only when we are more than we believe ourselves to be do we know who we are.
I do write some articles which some people find to be negative. Others love the articles. I make certain that the positive articles I write out weight the negative. My audience is diverse so are my articles. And I try to at least write a few useful and informative hubs each week. I try not to give too much advice but offer creative suggestions.
I work in the exact same place everyday. And you would be shocked to know how humble my circumstances are where I work. But the world is constantly moving so we don’t need to be stationary anymore when we write.
I have learned to turn off everything when I work in order to minimize my mistakes. And even though I type in word first, word doesn’t always catch all my mistakes.
Burn Out
I have never really counted but I believe the most hubs I have written in a day was 12. But that is only a guess. I think it was when I was terribly ill and couldn’t sleep so I would publish around the clock. When I am not ill I burn out after seven hubs. After seven hubs the quality of my work goes down. This is important for you to be able to identify as well. Know when you burn out so your work doesn’t suffer. I will rewrite this hub several times before I publish it as I have thirty five more to write before I can publish it. But as I write this hub I have broken my seven hub burn out rule. So know when you burn out and then know how to push through your burn out and still produce quality work.
Why Am I Sharing All Of This With You?
It is a good question but I am sharing this for very practical reasons. First I have done all of this work in this very short period of time and not maximized my profit through SEO or back links but through just writing. Second if you are inspired at all to follow my path I want you to have the tools to be able to do it successfully. I had no one to template to follow. Third, I want you to understand how much I have learned on this journey about writing, myself and most of all my wonderful hubpages community. And fourth I wanted you to see the transformation I have made over the last six months. The person who started writing on Hubpages six months ago is a very different person then the person who is writing this article today. It has been a great ride and education. And I keep talking about taking a break and I have every intention of doing so. I just never seem to be able to fit it into my schedule. But I have every intention of taking a break before I hit a 1,000 hubs. Besides I couldn’t possibly write that many hubs in a year nor would I want to.
What I Do Look Forward To.
I look forward to broadening my audience and having more followers. I have come across fellow hubbers who have a million people following them. I also look forward to reading all of your work. I can not impress upon everyone enough that in order to be read you have to read others work and rate it. I don’t always leave comments when I rate people’s work especially when I know the author. I look forward to sending fan mail and getting it. I also look forward to being in 100% of the world. I am only in 80% of the world currently. I know not everyone has computers or internet access but I look forward to the day where I can communicate with everyone in the world.
But most of all I look forward to hearing from all of you. All of you have taken a person who had no social interaction for two years because she was caring for her dying Mother to metamorphosing her into a published author who is in 80% of the world. And while I write the articles, I am nothing without my readers and every last one of you are an inspiration to me. Thank you for your generosity, kindness and talent. I am honored to just be among all of you.
The Forums
Recently I have been cyberly embraced by the pros on the forums. For all of you interested in really being successful I refer you to the the forums where you get to interact with a lot of successful hubbers. They have infinite patience and are true professionals. I am so grateful to all of them for all of their help.
A Comparison
In order to see the improvement in my writing I had to look back at my very first hubs. I published 3 on 5/21/2011. I will provide a link and you can judge for yourself. But I think it is important to look back before you move forward.
